BALLROOM - Editor

“Ballroom” is an inclusive wheelchair ballroom dance movie about a struggling dancer, Violet, who needs the help of the charming ballroom dance instructor, Petro Saenko, to learn all the Latin dances in two weeks for an upcoming crucial audition. When Violet’s depressive mother, Janet, causes her to have a devastating car accident and become paraplegic, Petro helps Violet regain her love for life by showing her she can still dance and audition — in a wheelchair. However, Violet’s controlling mother and Petro’s fiery jealous business partner, Emery, will stop at nothing to prevent Violet from realizing her dreams.

An Inclusive Dance Film

Laurence Walsh is the writer and director behind the new independent film, "Ballroom." Three years ago, an extraordinary event ignited her creative spirit. She witnessed her brother, Forrest Walsh, perform a Paso Doble with Mia Schaikewitz, a dancer in a wheelchair. The grace and power of their dance deeply impressed Laurence, inspiring her to channel this experience into a film

Walsh crafted a screenplay that weaves together her personal journey and the experiences of Mia Schaikewitz. Her script reflects her own life story, which includes overcoming depression and surviving a suicide attempt. In parallel, she incorporates elements from Mia's life, particularly her journey of coping with her disability and building a fulfilling life despite the challenges.

This fusion of personal struggles and triumphs forms the foundation of "Ballroom," a film that embodies the inspiration derived from the transformative power of dance.
