Nipples to the Sky is a feature length documentary about Dame Gillian Lynne, the groundbreaking choreographer of CATS , Phantom of the Opera , and over 60 major musicals, 10 films, 100’s of television shows, and how, at 92 years old, is fighting to be remembered for her visionary work, living in the shadows of Andrew Lloyd Webber and her other male collaborators.

This is the epic story of Gillian Lynne, the unsung choreographer behind CATS and Phantom of the Opera and how, at 92 years old, is fighting to be remembered for her visionary work.

TURNING EDUCATIONAL DISABILITIES

INTO STRENGTHS

Gillian had a challenging childhood. Because of her inability to concentrate and sit still, her teachers became concerned, but her doctor smiled and said, “There's nothing wrong with your daughter. She’s a born dancer. Please take her to dance class.”

DANCE PROVOCATEUR

Gillian Lynne is one of first major choreographers to combine ballet, jazz and modern dance with provocative movement, pushing boundaries and entrancing audiences of the time. She revolutionized dance with her sexually-infused choreography.

UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE

At the age of 52, Gillian met the love of her life, actor/singer Peter Land, age of 27, a man nearly half her age. While many judged their relationship to be foolish and scandalous, Gillian followed her heart, and their marriage continues to thrive today, 37 years later.

UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS

In 1980, Andrew Lloyd Webber asked Gillian to choreograph CATS, which became a worldwide phenomenon - and she became the visionary behind Britain’s first dance-driven musical. Her life changed forever. Five years later, in 1986, she choreographed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera.
